How to Organize Christmas Decorations in Simple Ways

Sep. 28, 2023

Are you one of those who want all the Christmas decor all packed and stored on December 26th like me? Then you will love these tried and true simple ways to put them away. I get that!!! It’s not super fun to organize Christmas Decorations when you have a lot of them. But you go this!! Check out the ideas below for some simple ways to organize them.

Christmas Tree

The first thing you should start your organizing with is the Christmas tree. It takes up a lot of space in the room, so moving it out of the way would make the rest of the process go faster. Try to fit the whole tree unassembled in the storage bag. That way it is less work both times. These are the two storage bags that I have been using for the last few years and I don’t have any complaints about them.

Christmas Decorations

Now the fun part begins!! As we know, we all have way too many Christmas decorations of all different kinds, and storing them in a properly organized way is the key to having less headache next year when the time comes. These are the tips I follow to keep all of them safe and sound until next year.

Tip 1

Group them in piles based on the types of decor while taking them down. For example, all the Christmas tree ornaments go into one pile and then I group them into sub plies by materials (Glass ornaments, wood ornaments, paper ornaments, etc.) because the storage strategies will differ for each of the categories. The second part is to declutter the ones that are broken or you don’t want next year before you start storing them.

Tip 2

Save all the bubble wrap and tissue paper that come with gifts and reuse them to wrap the wooden ornaments. You can use the clear pencil boxes or just any small storage boxes from Doller Tree to secure the paper ornaments. I am sharing with you options for not-so-affordable, affordable, and FREE storage solutions for fragile Christmas tree ornaments.

The free-of-cost solution is to save your Starbucks drink holder or the pulp egg crates or fruit crates from the farmer’s market and use those to hold the fragile Christmas ornaments and store them in the big totes.

Tip 3

Get big storage totes instead of smaller ones to hold all different sizes of decor. I personally like clear totes with red lids. That way I know that it’s the Christmas bin and can easily tell what’s inside. I also like these decorative totes to store some special items.

Tip 4

You can use the bike hooks or other multi-purpose hooks to hang the Christmas wreaths or linens or even light strands.

Tip 5

You can save the original packaging of the decors that come with sturdy boxes and use them to store them back after the holiday season.

Organizing Christmas decorations doesn’t have to be a daunting task. With these simple strategies, you can streamline the process, reduce stress, and enjoy a more festive and joyous holiday season. Take the time to declutter, invest in quality storage containers, label everything, and preserve fragile items. By following these tips, you’ll be well-prepared to bring the holiday magic to your home year after year. Happy decorating!
