Working Mom Weekend Schedule

Jul. 30, 2023

Being a working mom is an exhilarating and demanding experience, with every day presenting a unique set of challenges. The weekend brings a much-needed respite from the daily grind, but it also poses its own set of responsibilities and commitments. Finding the right balance between family time, self-care, and professional obligations can seem like an uphill task. In this blog post, I will share my tried and true working mom weekend schedule tips to set you up for the busy week ahead.

Carving Out Some ‘Me Time’ on Saturday Morning

The first-weekend goal for you as a busy working mom should be to carve out some ‘Me Time’ to recharge your mind and soul for the busy days ahead. This time could be dedicated to devotion, journalling, working out, taking a rejuvenating bath, catching up on a favorite book, or just simply relaxing. It’s important to remember that taking care of oneself is crucial for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Even sleeping in late could be just as efficient as the other one to catch up on the lost sleep during the week.

Do the Meal Plan early on Saturday or Friday Night

Doing the meal plan earlier on Saturday or on Friday night gives you the advantage of having all the groceries available to you early to meal prep for the week. If you don’t have the time to stroll around the store to grab stuff, do a pickup order or have them delivered to your house.

Meal Prep on Saturday

Chances are that the kids will be content and busy playing independently in the morning portion of the Saturday after a week at the daycare that you would be able to knock out some of the heavy lifting weekend chores and Meal Prep for the week is one of them. Having the meal prepping done is the push to have a successful week ahead.

Rest and Family Time

Use the rest of the Saturday to rest and have quality time with the family. Even a late night on Saturday with the kids will not hurt the routine the next day. Based on your liking you can go to a kid’s place or to eat out. Whether it’s a trip to the local park, a museum visit, or a simple picnic in the backyard, these activities allow you to bond with the children and create lasting memories. While engaging in play and exploration, you can temporarily set aside work-related worries and fully immerse yourself in the joy of parenthood.

Spend Quality Time with Your Significant Other

When the kids are down for the night, take a moment to spend some time with your significant other. Sometimes when we have small kids and full-time jobs, we put the relationship with our partner on the back burner. Make sure you devote some time to nurturing that connection because that is the foundation of your family dynamics.

Time to Catch Up on the Laundry

Sunday morning could be the perfect time to start catching up on the endless laundry. For an easy week ahead it is good to have all the clothes cleanout. I do it first thing on Sunday morning so that the other household chores could be done in parallel. Laying out clothes for all the kids for the week ahead takes the mental load out on busy weekday mornings.

Plan for a Fun Sunday Afternoon

At this point, you should be mostly ready for the week ahead. So take this opportunity to plan something fun with the kids that are not overstimulating to keep them awake till late but exciting enough to let their energy out for the day.

Close Out Shift on Sunday Night

Once the kids are in bed, it’s always good to take an hour or so to pick up the entire house like a close-out shift on Sunday night. There is no better feeling than coming down to a clean organized house on Monday morning. It completely set out the mood for the upcoming week.

This is my weekend schedule as a busy working mom. Even if I can’t follow this to a tee every single time because not all weekends are the same, I always make sure to prioritize the tasks that will have to happen for the upcoming week and go by that.
